Meatballs!
Let's switch gears over to the meatballs in this recipe. This recipe utilizes ground chicken instead of other ground proteins like beef, turkey, or pork. Ground chicken tends to be lower in overall calories as well as lower in total fat compared to other types of ground protein. Feel free to change up the protein type being using in this recipe to make the meatballs.
Something that is unique in this recipe was that we substituted out bread crumbs which are traditionally used to make meatballs for quick oat. Quick oats add more fiber content to the meatball and make for a great substitution or alternative to bread crumbs when you realize you are all out of the bread crumbs. This not only goes for meatballs but another other dish calling for bread crumbs. If you have rolled oats, make sure to blend them for a few seconds to break up the oat into a more shredded appearance.
Bread crumb alternatives:
Cornflakes
Potato chips
Crackers
Toasted bread slices
NOTE: above are alternatives that could be blended and would work when making meatballs. These above, as well as other alternatives, could also be used as bread crumbs when looking to make a crust on food.
