It's Avocado Time!

Are you as hyped about avocados as we are?!

Avocados are yes, one of the world's superfoods and for good reasons too! I’ll keep revealing more superfoods throughout this article so keep an eye out for them. For now, it’s time for the avocado to shine.

Before we get into all the amazing superpowers avocados have let’s talk history.

Avocados originated from South and Central America. But now are commercially grown throughout the world, California, Florida, Australia, too many other warm destinations. I mean who wouldn’t want to grow these small (I guess they’re not that small) but mighty fruits?!

Ever wonder where avocados get their name? Well...it just so happens that the name comes from the Aztec word for “testicle”. This is generally thought to be in reference to the shape and the way the fruit hangs in the trees like a pair. Haha.

I think we all can spot this savory green bumpy textured fruit. Thank you social media for always highlighting the avocado! Avocados are also known as alligator pear. What’s cool about avocados is that they change colors as they ripen. Starting out as a brighter green and progressively turning a darker green to almost black in color.

Now it’s time to get into all the super things avocados have to offer! Avocados are packed, and I mean packed with nourishment. Here is a list of the vitamins, minerals, and much more:

  1. Vitamin B6

  2. Vitamin C

  3. Vitamin E

  4. Vitamin K

  5. Folate

  6. Fiber

  7. Pantothenic acid

  8. Riboflavin

  9. Niacin

  10. Magnesium

  11. Potassium

  12. Copper

  13. Manganese

  14. Thiamine

  15. Iron

  16. Phosphorus

  17. Zinc

  18. Antioxidants

  19. Mono- and poly-unsaturated fats

Okay, my list is done for now!

So you can see there are a ton of nutrients in avocados. It’s believed that avocados can inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells as well as other anticancer benefits when in the combination of other nutrients. The healthy fats found in avocados can also help with absorption.

Green foods have also been shown to improve eye health, rejuvenate musculature and bones, and build strong teeth.

Serving: In 1 cup or 150g is roughly

  • 240 calories

  • 3g protein

  • 22 g fat

  • 12.8g carbohydrates

  • 10g fiber

I’m pretty sure you can put avocado in/on anything and everything and it would still be amazing! I personally love the classic avocado toast.
